Moving a railcar is not for the faint of heart. As the old saying goes, the devil is in the details.

Simply picking up a railcar and putting it on a trailer is not as easy as it looks.

Items to consider are a route without obstructions if the load is high, if it is heavy and overall length.

This boxcar may have never left the yard if it wasn't for Amtrak getting ready to replace 30' of fencing and was kind enough to take it down for the trailer to make the swing onto the main road. The total lenght of the tractor and trailer was just over 100'. This is just for a 40' boxcar.

Many months of preparation were required to coordinate the move. Then, less than two weeks before Amtrak's deadline to remove the car from the property, we ran into problems with both the crane and trucking companies. Fortunately, we found other crane and trucking organizations (see our Links page) that were highly professional and executed the move successfully.
