We had been looking for an ore jenny for some time, chasing down leads wherever they appeared, for one left in the weeds near the old Bethlehem steel plant, for another floating around Ohio. All to no avail.

Then, a fellow PRR fan from Altoona, who had found us a stove for a cabin car, mentioned he'd seen a jenny in Rose Yard, Altoona. Well how about that. After four years of searching, this one shows up out of the blue, and not only had it escaped the scrappers, but it was a first generation G38.

This ore jenny was built in February 1960. The car had made it into Penn Central paint and was re-numbered 500543. But sorry, Penn Central fans, this car will be restored to its original PRR paint and number, 15555.
